Ships of 500 GT or more of the following types: 

(1) research, expeditions or surveying; (2) training of marine personnel; (3) whale and fish factory, not engaged in catching; (4) ships processing other living resources of the sea, not engaged in catching; (5) ships with design features and modes similar to the above, at the Administration's discretion, if carrying more than 12 special personnel. Examples are British Antarctic Survey ships, cable ships, pipe- laying vessels and diving support ships.
