Mini Land Bridge (MLB). This term is used when the movement of cargo in containers is on an intermodal basis and the cargo is taken in charge by the carrier at a point inland and/or delivered to an inland point.
The term is particularly applicable to the United States where intermodalism is very common. It applies to containerised cargo originating or destined for the U.S. Gulf or U.S. Atlantic Coast ports moved overland by rail via U.S. West Coast ports to and from the Far East. Cargo is moved on a combined transport bill of lading. Land transport and terminal costs are usually included in the through rate.
