Non working day. A “working day” in the context of laytime is a day on which cargo operations are carried out in the usual manner in a port and without extra payment such as for overtime.
If a day on which work is carried out but at overtime or “penalty” rates, such a day may be called a “non-working day”. A nonworking day may or may not be counted as laytime, depending on the words in the charterparty. A nonworking day is not normally a “holiday” or a day of rest unless it is actually a day with such attributes.
